🏥 Veterinary Fluid Therapy Calculator by Dr. Ranjita Bastola

Essential calculations for veterinary fluid therapy management

Maintenance Fluids
Dehydration
Shock Fluids
Ongoing Losses
Anesthesia Fluids

Daily Maintenance Fluid Requirements

Formula: Dogs:30 × weight(kg) + 70 ml/day
Cats: 40 ml/kg/day

Dehydration Deficit Replacement

Formula: Fluid deficit (ml) = Body weight (kg) × Dehydration (%) × 10
Rate: Deficit ÷ Replacement time (hours)

Shock Fluid Resuscitation

Shock Dose: Dogs: 90 ml/kg | Cats: 40 ml/kg
Administration: Give over 15-30 minutes, reassess, repeat as needed. Endpoints : Improved CRT, BP, HR, Pulse quality, Blood Lacate.
Always reassess patient after each shock dose administration. Monitor for fluid overload. It is NOT recommended to give full shock dose at once. MICROBOLUSES are for the win.

Ongoing Loss Replacement

Estimates: Vomiting: 4 ml/kg per episode | Diarrhea: 10 ml/kg per episode
Note: These are estimates - actual losses may vary significantly. Best to measure the loss by weighing soiled bed.

Anesthesia Fluid Rate Calculator

Formula: Dogs: 5 ml/kg/hr | Cats: 3 ml/kg/hr
Note: For normovolemic, normotensive, well-hydrated animals only
Ensure patient is properly hydrated and hemodynamically stable before anesthesia.
